Shirley Ann Woomer, age 83, of Nixa, Missouri, passed peacefully away at Mercy Hospital on February 26, 2024. She was born to James and Eulivia (Pertuche) Martin on August 4, 1940, in Springfield, Missouri. Shirley was raised in Springfield and attended Springfield Public Schools. She was united in marriage to Lowell Woomer in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple shared 17 years of marriage before Lowell’s untimely passing on July 14, 1974. For many years, Shirley was employed in the collections office at Dillons and as a cashier at Walmart. Shirley was blessed with five loving daughters: Terry, Carrie, Lisa, Laura, and Heather.
While Shirley was a woman of many pastimes and interests, her most joyful and fulfilling activities involved spending time with family, especially her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The depth of her love for each family member was truly immeasurable. Her legacy of unconditional love and acceptance will abide forever in the hearts of those she loved.
When not giving her full attention to family, Shirley had a particular fondness for animals, especially panda bears, squirrels, and hummingbirds. Mexican Villa, Dr. Pepper, and chocolate milk were among her very favorite indulgences. She enjoyed watching Hallmark and Lifetime movies, listening to Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, and George Strait, and playing Bingo. She also liked to watch a variety of gameshows, especially Wheel of Fortune and the Price is Right. Shirley was also well known for using Facebook as a means to send innumerable GIFs to those she loved. Shirley will be remembered for living her life to the fullest, sharing her love and laughter with others, and making family her highest of priorities.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eulivia Martin, husband, Lowell Woomer, and brother, Jimmy Martin. She is survived by daughter, Terry Pischer and her husband, Roy; Carrie Haney and her husband, Tom; daughter, Lisa Maynard; daughter, Laura Curtis; daughter, Heather Keller; bonus children, Haleigh Woomer, Kristina Keller, and Kaleb Keller; brother, Eddy Martin and his wife, Judy; nine grandchildren: Jamie Matlock, Jennifer Hartness, Cody Maynard, Callie Bader, Terra Moon, Sean Honsinger, Cortney Curtis, Nick Foster, and Brianna Dickens; fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild on the way. Shirley is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Shirley’s family will host a visitation on Sunday, March 3, 2024, from 3:00-5:00 pm., at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. A graveside service for Shirley will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, 11:00 am, at Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield. Service arrangements are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
