Dr. Stanley Monroe Horton, 98, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Maranatha Village in Springfield.
He was born in Los Angeles, California May 6, 1916 to Rev. Harry Horton and his wife Myrle. Dr. Horton combined academic excellence and a practical, loving Christian life. He lived what he believed. He taught the Word of God on five different continents and trained thousands of ministers and missionaries who have impacted people in every country in the world. “Live like Jesus could come back any minute and at the same time as if it could be hundreds of years and do what God has called you to do here on earth.”
Stanley Horton joins his parents, Harry and Myrle, his siblings Donald, Harold, David, Evelyn May and Gertrude and his dear wife of over 50 years, Evelyn, who are already rejoicing In the Presence of the Lord. He leaves behind two sisters; Ruth and Esther of California; two sons and their wives; Stan Jr. and Linda (Self) of Springfield, MO and Ed and Diana (Dykes) of Branson, MO. and a daughter and her husband Faith and Brent (Stilts) of Springfield,MO. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Matt and his wife Darci (Stonebreaker), Monica and her husband Matt (Bryant) and Zachary Andrew Horton Stilts as well as six great-grandchildren: Cale, Aven, Asher, Noah, Lila and Seth.
Visitation will be at Evangel University Spence Chapel, Friday, July 18, 2014 5-8 pm. Funeral will be Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 10:00 am also at EU Spence Chapel. Graveside service will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the funeral.
