It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steve Underhill on December 29, 2025. He was a beloved husband, son, brother and cherished friend. Steve was born on July 9, 1955, in Springfield, MO to Ron and Mitzi (Thompson) Underhill, and spent his life in the beauty of the Missouri Ozarks. His early work life was a part owner of a creative stone masonry company. He later worked at and retired from Maiman’s Architectural Woodworks, crafting exquisite architectural doors. He often bragged of making doors for Oprah’s farm in Iowa, one of the Hard Rock Cafes and the vice-president’s residence as well as other impressive creations.
On March 27, 1976, Steve married the love of his life, Trenna Munkers. They would have been married 50 years in March. While they thought it was silly, they looked forward to seeing their names on KY3 News at noon for their 50th anniversary.
After retirement, Steve loved having a home at Lake of the Ozarks. He and Trenna would often go up in late March and stay until mid-October. Whether fishing from the dock, flying a kite from the back of the boat while going down the Big Niangua (ducking low bridges) or just sitting on the deck watching little kids learn how to ski and wakeboard, he enjoyed lake life tremendously. He had many fond memories with friends and family. Steve’s laughter echoed across the shores, leaving a profound impact on all who knew him. Once you heard Steve laugh, you could find him in a crowd of thousands.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Trenna (Munkers) Underhill, of the home, who will forever hold the memories of their life together in her heart. Their bond was a beautiful testament to love, partnership, and companionship. He is also survived by his other best friend, his brother Tony (Nancy) Underhill of St. Louis Mo. and a nephew Jason Underhill of Alma, AR and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Steve was preceded in death by a daughter, Kerby Marie Underhill, his mother Mitzi and recently his father Ron.
While Steve faced many health issues, he never gave up and lived his life the way he wanted. The strength and determination he showed during multiple challenges, illnesses and surgeries is a testament to his courage, strength and, well…. downright stubbornness.
In celebration of Steve’s life, a memorial visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 7th, 2026, from 12 PM to 2 PM at Greenlawn North. We invite family and friends to join to remember Steve, sharing stories and laughter in honor of a man who had so much love to give with a heart of gold. No formal service is planned. Inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to your favorite charity in Steve’s name would be appreciated. If you can’t decide, the Southwest Humane Society was a favorite of Steve and Trenna.
While we mourn the loss of Steve, we also celebrate the life he lived and the indelible mark he left on our hearts. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the beauty of the Ozarks he adored.
