Terry Kent Cornell was born July 24, 1949 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was the son of Paul and Margaret (Price) Cornell. He graduated from Bolivar High School in 1967. On December 19, 1970 he married Zana Kay Hollis and gained a step-daughter, Sheila. The couple then moved to Kansas City, where he became a union carpenter. To Terry and Zana were born two children, Sundi and Jason. The family later moved to Clinton, where Terry helped run Lowry City Seed for several years before returning to Bolivar. After working as a union carpenter in Springfield for many years, he retired at the age of 55. He later worked for Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home and continued carpentry work as well.
Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing with friends. He also enjoyed attending church, where he served as song leader for many years until his illness. He was saved in October 1964 and baptized into Enon Missionary Baptist Church at age 15. At the time of his death he was a member of Southside Missionary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and grandparents, including grandmother Ruth Price, as well as two infant nephews.
He is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Zana; his three children, Sheila Walters and husband Randy, Sundi Payne and husband Derek, and Jason Cornell and wife Regina; nine grandchildren, Amanda Walters, Amber Hunt and husband John, Kenneth Walters and wife Jamie, Payton Vahle, Maddy Vahle, Kennedy Payne, Makenzie Meents and husband John, Jackson Cornell, and Owen Cornell; two great-grandchildren, Emily Hunt and Ada Grace Walters; a brother, Paul DeLen Cornell of Clinton; and several nieces and nephews, along with many friends made throughout his life.
Terry died Saturday, October 8, 2002 at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, at the age of 73 years and two months, after a battle with numerous health issues. Services will be held at Pitts Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home of Bolivar on Saturday, October 15, with a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Polk County, Missouri.
