Virgie Mae Swearengin, age 73, of Springfield, MO., passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at St. John’s Medical Center. She was born December 25, 1937, in Elkland, MO., to Roy and Oda (Austin) Highfill. She loved to go to stock car racing at Lebanon, Bolivar, and Kansas City, MO. She loved to collect coins and crochet, attend her grandchildren’s activities, play bingo, go to casinos, and cook from scratch. She loved to care for other people rather than herself. She also always enjoyed deer hunting with Don.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Marvin Highfill and Oda Highfill; four brothers; a son; and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, Don Swearengin, Springfield, MO; four children, Ricky Mahan, Gregory Mahan, Pamela Linnebur, and Timothy Swearengin; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; three sisters; one brother; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Greenlawn North Funeral Home, on Monday, July 11, 2011, with Pastor Mike Herr officiating. Burial will follow at Union Mound Cemetery, Elkland, MO. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday July 11, 2011, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield, MO.
