Virginia Lee (Houchin) Arnold, 78, passed away September 20, 2014 in her home in Springfield, MO.She was born in Somerville, TN, in 1936. Virginia graduated from Somerville High School, Somerville, TN. in 1953. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University (now Missouri State University), graduating summa cum laude, and completed her Master’s degree from Norwich University.
Virginia married Forest Loyd Arnold on November 22, 1953 in Memphis, Tenn. From that union came four children. Virginia went on to become a college professor at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO, where she taught for more than 30 years, retiring in 2000. Her heart was in missionary work. She and her husband ministered extensively in the countries of Thailand, Burma, Vietnam, Russia and Ukraine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest Loyd Arnold, Sr., her parents, Zephro Earl Houchin and Clencie Ola Siler Houchin, and one infant brother.
Survivors include: four children (and spouses), Synthia Arnold Cathcart and Randall Cathcart, Sr., Forest Arnold, Jr. and Sharon Waugh Arnold, Kenneth Arnold and Julie George Arnold, and Katheryn Arnold Lay and James Lay. She was also survived by 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The visitation and funeral will be at the Greenlawn Funeral Home East, on September 27, 2014. The visitation will be from noon to 2:00 p.m and the funeral will follow immediately at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery on September 27, 2014. Three days before Virginia’s death, she stated, “Please ask people not to send flowers. Flowers are to show that you are loved. I already know I am loved, and more than I deserve. Please give people a chance to donate to something I love.” In honor of Virginia’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of three charities that were especially important to her.
