Wanda Lamy passed peacefully from her earthly home to her heavenly one on April 27, 2015 following a short illness. An Ozarks’ native, she was born to June and Edna Young on February 8, 1934. They predeceased her, as did her only sibling, her brother Earnest Young.
Wanda graduated from Springfield Senior (Central) High School in 1952. She married her classmate and childhood sweetheart, Don Lamy, on June 14, 1952. Don predeceased her in 2001.
She is survived by son Brian, daughter Lynne, son-in-law Travis Clubb, and five grandchildren, all of Springfield. They, along with her extended family, will miss her diligence, her dry wit, and her delicious desserts.
Wanda’s career as a bookkeeper spanned most of her adult life. She worked at banks prior to spending twelve years at home with her children. Upon returning to the workforce, she joined Hankins Surgical Supply in Springfield. She worked at Hankins for over 40 years, stopping only recently due to her illness. She is greatly missed by her friends and co-workers there.
In celebration of Wanda’s life and in remembrance of her legendary sweet tooth, a memorial service and dessert reception will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home East in Springfield on May 1, 2015 at 4 p.m. Wanda was a member of High Street Baptist Church for many years and her pastor, Eddie Lyons, will officiate the service.
Burial at historic Clear Creek Cemetery, where four generations of Wanda’s family are interred, will occur privately at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Springfield Victory Mission or to the PowerPacks ministry at High Street Baptist Church. “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.” Psalm 116:15.
