Wilma M. Plaster returned to her heavenly home on Saturday March 24, 2018. Wilma passed with peace and grace surrounded by her family at 4:42 pm.
Wilma was born October 7, 1922 to D.P. and Flora (Dye) Wade in Brixey, Missouri. She grew up in Ava, Missouri where she attended school and cheered for the Ava Bears. On August 16, 1941 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Plaster.
With this blessed union, three children were born. Her love for Lawrence never wavered. She was an extremely devoted wife. While Lawrence was deployed in the Navy during World War II, she proudly took care of the family back at home. After Lawrence graduated from college, they moved back to their beloved home of Ava, Missouri and raised their children. It was here that they owned and operated the Western Auto for 21 years. In 1988, they retired in Springfield, Missouri where her and Lawrence were active members of North National and Sunset Church of Christ and avid supporters of the Lady Bears basketball team.
Wilma loved her family immensely! She enjoyed taking care of others and she was very active in the Women's Ministry at the Church of Christ of Ava. There she became famous for her pecan pie. She also enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and fishing.
Wilma and Lawrence experienced many adventures through their travels together. They ventured throughout the world from Switzerland to Mexico to 48 states. Whether this was on a cruise ship in an exotic location or a Sunday drive through the Ozark hills, they always enjoyed the journey together.
Wilma will be lovingly remembered by her adoring husband of 76 years, Lawrence of Springfield, Missouri; daughter Billye Holderby and her husband, Bob, of Springfield, Missouri; daughter Sherry Downen of Springfield, Missouri; Son Larry Plaster and his wife Marcia of Springfield, Missouri; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; Sister-in-laws, Louise Goddard of Jenks, Oklahoma and Mary Plaster of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Brother-in-law, Lowell Plaster of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Plus many niece, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Howard Wade; sisters Velma Goodwyn and Wilda Sanders; Son-in-law, Charles T Downen; and grandson, Brian Ball.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 28th from 5-7pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 29th at 10:30 am with burial following in Missouri Veterans Cemetery under the care and direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home East.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Wilma, to Fair Haven Children's Home at 3132 North Fair Haven Loop, Strafford, Missouri 65657.
