I feel honored to have had the opportunity to talk to John on the phone, albeit the opportunity did not happen until June 2015. He was on the Black Tuesday flight with my uncle Ara Mooradian. John was repatriated nearly 2 years later. (My uncle was not). John was candid and wonderful and approachable, as was Charlene. I will miss not having the opportunity to visit with him. What a wonderful man. and what a wonderful wife Charlene was in the last 10 years.

I offer my sympathy to Ruby and the family and friends of John Strine, one of the Greatest Generation’s heroes. It was my honor to record a video interview with John for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project in 2012. It was men and women like John Strine who kept this nation free during one of its greatest challenges, 1941-45. He not only served during WWII but also reenlisted and fought in the Korea War, suffering through long months in primitive prison camps. Thank you for your service, John Thomas Strine!

Our sincere sympathies to the entire family. May you find solace in the love and memories shared together and may God comfort you with these words from the Bible. “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces. The reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken it”. (Isaiah 25:8)
