Daphne M. Irwin passed from this world peacefully in her home in the woods on August 3, 2022. She led an interesting life filled with adventures and creativity. The home she designed and built was her ongoing art project. A talented artist, she created beautiful fabric art. She was also interested in politics, the environment, and her Scottish roots.
Daphne graduated from the University of Missouri. She started her career as a teacher at Greenwood Elementary School in Springfield before becoming a librarian. She was the head children’s librarian at the Brentwood library until her retirement. She was in tune with nature and followed many Native American traditions as well as her Quaker heritage. Daphne had an innate sparkle. Everyone who met her loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Nancy. She is survived by her beloved son Christopher Allen and his wife Mary, and her sister Cynthia Moore and cousins. She was also predeceased by husbands Jack Allen and Louis (Four Bears) Irwin. Daphne will be missed by all.
Cremation is at Greenlawn South Funeral Home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00, Friday, October 21st at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 2434 E. Battlefield, Springfield, Mo. 65804. A potluck will follow. Please bring memories to share.
