Douglas Lee Bennett, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on Sept 3, 2022. The family is both devastated and shocked by his death. Doug was born on March 5, 1970, in Springfield, MO to Lee and Sandy Bennett.
Doug grew up in Springfield. He loved his hometown. It is there that he enjoyed hunting, fishing and baseball. Many considered Doug the “go to” guy when there was a need that should be handled in a professional fashion. He set goals and then found creative ways to achieve them in both his personal and professional life. As an ex-professional athlete, he was driven to succeed in everything he set out to do by having a NEVER give up attitude!
Doug was a Christian, a brother, a son and a father. He was an award-winning salesman in a variety of industries, but what many will remember Doug for is his love of baseball. In 2017 he was honored to be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Even with all the awards, Doug remained modest and quiet. This was noticeable while coaching the many young athletes and their parents on the value of practice and technique, he always remained the gentle giant…never raising his voice or talking down to a student. Those that truly knew Doug knew he had a big heart and would do anything for a person. Even though the good Lord took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all in the community.
Doug is survived by his beautiful daughter, Karsen Bennett, his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Lee Bennett of Springfield, 2 sisters, Kim (Carl) Leonard and Paula (Robert) Palmer and a brother, Todd (Kendall) Bennett.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at a future date in Cameron, MO. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hillcrest Legion Baseball Program (c/o Ryan Schaffitzel) is desired.
