I never knew Doug but was a competitor in American Legion Baseball playing for West Plains. Being the same age, I always followed him watching his success in H.S. and American Legion and seeing him sign with Arkansas. I was shocked and saddened to just learn of his passing. Our condolences for one of Missouri's greatest baseball players.

Of all the Hillcrest families with whom I was associated over my 30 plus years as a Hillcrest teacher, the Bennett family was at the very top of the list. When I read of Doug's passing, I was, and am, deeply, deeply saddened and overwhelmed. I readily recall the good times we had during Doug's year in the Hillcrest cabinet. The respect Doug earned from the student body, and, in turn, the respect he demonstrated toward the students was instrumental in the success Doug experienced during his years at Hillcrest. You are in my thoughts and prayers, and I thank you for sharing Doug with us.

Prayers of strength to you, Dr. and Mrs. Bennett, and your family. I have many great memories competing against Doug. I also had the pleasure of being his teammate for a year. He was the real deal, and I respected him tremendously. I'm saddened by his passing.

Our hearts and prayers go out to Lee and Sandy and the whole family. Doug was loved and appreciated as a coach for our grandson, Nate. I don’t know what to say in this situation but know we care.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
