Agnes Floy Kendrick Breshears, daughter of Issac Preston and Mary Francis Kendrick was born July 12, 1925, in Cromwell, Oklahoma. She went to be with her savior Monday, November 23, 2020, at the age of 95.
Floy met her groom, Alvin Ray Breshears, at a little country Missionary Baptist Church, and they were married February 19, 1945, at the home of Rev. Jim L. Wright north of Wheatland. They were blessed with two precious children, the late William Alvin in 1949 and Mary Sue in 1956.
She has six grandchildren, the late William James Breshears, Jerry Lee Breshears and wife Emily, Charles Dewayne Dryer and wife Amy, Jimmy Ray Breshears, Billy Joe Breshears, and Bobby Joe Breshears. He also had several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren which she so cherished.
Floy leaves behind to mourn: her daughter Mary Sue Dryer of Wheatland; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Those who departed before her were her parents, husband Alvin, son William, grandson James, sister Fern Breshears and her husband Roy Lee; sister Mary Faye Chanceller and her husband Glenn; brother Charles Karr Kendrick; and many friends.
She lived in Benton and Hickory Counties since moving from Oklahoma at 12 months of age. Floy loved to plant a garden and work with her flowers. She also helped Alvin in the fields bailing hay, driving trucks and working with the cattle on their farm. Her normal routine was to have breakfast fixed and on the table for Alvin (usually consisting of his favorite cornbread) and she would be out doing chores well before daylight. Her favorite thing to do was attend church where she attended faithfully as long as health permitted. Her greatest desire was to pray for lost souls.
Floy was saved as a young girl and joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized by Rev. William Green. Floy was secretary for many years at her little church. She also taught the young people class and the card class at different times at the church.
The family would like to thank everyone who helped Alvin and Floy over the years as their health declined. They are extremely appreciative of the prayers and concern in their time of sorrow. It is hoped that we all will meet again by living out Floys’s legacy of finding salvation and serving God.
She did not always see eye to eye with everyone, not just because she stood under five feet tall, but she was also quick to tell you what and how she felt. She always made sure that those close to her got to hear about salvation, and many of those close to her probably have her and Alvin to thank for helping them find their salvation. One of the most special memories about Floy was hearing her prayers. Some of the best were when she was out checking the cows or on a walk as her voice rang out from the hillside where she stopped to pray.
