DEAN SCOTT
Mt. Vernon – Dean Scott, 75, Mt. Vernon, passed away at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, 2011, in St. John’s, Springfield, following a long illness. He was born July 10, 1936, in Licking to Delbert and Opal Scott. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Glen Scott, and a sister, Cleo Wells.
He married Wanda Wood June 21, 1985. She survives.
He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia and was a vocational agriculture teacher for 25 years. His last 16 years were at Miller High School. He had a passion for horses and was a member of the Missouri Foxtrotter Association. He spent much of his free time training and riding horses. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, students and friends. He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. He attended Round Grove Baptist Church.
Additional survivors include one son, Steve Scott, Boston, Mass.; three daughters, Tami Simmons, Portland, Maine, Rana Hudson and Nicole Curtis, both of Lecoma; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Rinker and Kristy Prater, both of Mt. Vernon; two brothers, Gene Scott (his twin), Licking, and Duane Scott, Rogersville; three sisters, Doris Lay and June Marion, both of Licking, and Betty Kirkman, St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at Round Grove Baptist Church, Miller, with Daren Bowles officiating, under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home South, Springfield.
