Alice Allen was born on November 14, 1920 in Cape Fair, Missouri to Joseph and Laura Jones. Alice passed away February 6, 2013 in Springfield, Missouri at the age of 92 years. She became a Christian when she was 15. She graduated from Crane High School and attended SMS. She taught in a one room school for two years.
She was united in marriage to Joe Linn Hitlon in 1941 in Reno, Nevada. During WWII, they lived in vari¬ous place in the United States while Joe was in the Army Air Corps. They later moved to Springfield. To this union three children were born. The family was always involved in school and church activities. Joe passed away in 1964.
In 1968, Alice married Joy D. Allen. Joy brought his three children to the family. Joy and Alice loved traveling, attending Lady Bears basketball games, gardening, visiting shut-ins, cooking meals for many people, helping wherever there was a need. Family gatherings were always special. Each new member added to the family was warmly welcomed. They loved their family dearly.
Alice was a homemaker and also worked many years at Lily Tulip. She en-joyed teaching Bible classes. She liked sewing, crocheting, canning, picnics, and family reunions. She was a devoted member of the Watermill Church of Christ where she worshiped for 64 years.
Joy preceded Alice in death in January 2012. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, a sister, two grandchildren, and one great-grand-child.
She is survived by six children and their spouses: Gary and Aldine Hilton, Becky and Gerald Pryor, Bonita Dancey, Joyce and Loren McCammon, Ted and Dee Allen, T.A. and Terri Allen, 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Aunt Jesse and a sister, Reatha Guyer.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 10 from 2-4 pm. in Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Memorial services will be held Monday, February 11 at 9:30 am. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at 11:00 in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
Alice touched many lives. She was greatly loved and she will be greatly missed.
