Alice Glendalea Hartman, age 98, of Springfield, MO, passed into the presence of her Savior, Jesus, on March 1, 2024, at Maranatha Village in Springfield, MO. Alice was born June 27, 1925, in Harman, West Virginia, to the late Delmer and Anna (Judy) Teter. She graduated from Harman High School and later married Emory Lee Hartman on July 16, 1949. Four children were born into their family: Steven, Sherry, Edward, and Larry.
The family lived in West Virginia for a time and then moved to Ohio for better employment opportunities. In 1977, Alice and Emory moved to Springfield, MO, to be near their adult children. Alice and Emory lived together in Springfield until his death September 13, 1996.
Alice was a wife and homemaker. She was an accomplished housekeeper, quilter, cook, and gardener. She loved God and spent many hours attending and volunteering in various ministries at the churches they attended. She enjoyed women’s Bible studies, women’s ministries, visitation, prayer meetings, and teaching children. In her recent senior years, she attended Praise Assembly of God and Evangel Temple. Her home was always open to family who gathered for holidays and birthday celebrations. Several grandchildren lived with her temporarily, to her delight and their assistance.
In addition to her husband, Emory, Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Hallen Teter, and two sisters: Mary Buckingham and Betty Teter; her son, Steven; and her daughter-in-law, Vickie Hartman. Surviving are Alice’s three remaining children and two of their spouses: Sherry (daughter) and Kenneth Plaster, Edward Hartman (wife Vickie), and Larry (son) and Dawn Hartman, all of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A graveside service for all who would like to attend will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on Wednesday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m. A brief time of viewing will be at 1:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to “Women’s Empowerment,” a ministry of Convoy of Hope https://convoyofhope.org/initiatives/womens-empowerment/. Cards for the family may be sent in care of Edward Hartman at 2723 N. Howard Avenue, Springfield, MO.
