Alice Mylene Sutherland, age 88, departed this life to be with the Lord on November 5, 2010, at 3:10 p.m., surrounded by family in St. John’s Hospital.
Mylene was born January 21, 1922, in Fair Grove, Missouri, to Gaines Mullings and Stella Treon Mullings. She was united in marriage to Norman Sutherland on August 29, 1941. To this union, two sons were born, Vernon and Kenneth Sutherland.
Mylene was a thoughtful and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched. Mylene loved working on the farm, helping care for the cattle. She delighted in fixing and serving large family dinners.
She made every holiday a special time to be with her family. Her grandchildren were the great joy of her life. Mylene raised her boys in the fear and admonition of the Lord. Mylene found the Lord at an early age and served the Lord faithfully the rest of her days. She attended Brighton Highway Assembly.
Mylene is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, Norman; her children, Vernon and wife Katrina, of Fair Grove, Kenneth and wife Sammy, of Springfield; a sister, Wilda Jones, Everton; and four grandchildren, Brian Sutherland and wife Kellie, Marquita Draper and husband Tim, Kristen Sherman and husband Kirk, Joel Sutherland and wife Cindy; her great-grandchildren, Zachary Sherman, Logan Draper, Colton Sherman, Landon Draper, Lexie Sutherland, Chloe Sutherland, Luke Sutherland and Lindy Sutherland. She is also survived by Joyce and Eunice Sutherland, Dorothy and Marvin Batson, Dorothy Sutherland; special cousins, Charlene and Twyla; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
Mylene was preceded in death by her brothers, Ernest, Lee and Deward Mullings; her brothers-in-law, Bud Jones and Arles Sutherland; and sisters-in-law, Geneva Mullings, Mavis Sutherland, and Ruth Mullings.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, November 8, 2010, in Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with Reverend Jim Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, in the funeral home.
