Allen Ervin Snell

Allen Ervin Snell, 94, Hollister, MO, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Shepherd of the Hills Living. His funeral service will be Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. at Real Life Church in Hollister, Missouri. The service will be officiated by Pastor Jody Kilburn. Visitation will be held from 8:00-8:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2026, prior to the service. Burial will be following the service at the Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri. Lunch will be served following the burial at the church at 1 p.m.
Allen Ervin Snell was born on December 25, 1931, in White Haven, PA to Henry R. and Carrie B. (Miller) Snell. Allen attended school in White Haven, PA. Following graduation, Allen joined the Air Force in October of 1951. He was honorably discharged in October of 1956. Allen was married to Connie (Graber) Snell on June 15, 1967, in Rolette, ND. They made their homes in Alaska, Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Montana, and Missouri over the course of their married life.
After the Korean War, Allen spent 20 years as a civilian working for the Air Force in Alaska. He was also a game warden in Pennsylvania, worked at the Rolette Hospital in North Dakota, and the school district in Wolf Point, Montana before retiring.
Allen led a very interesting life which included homesteading in both Wasilla and Homer Bay, Alaska. While living there, he spent a lot of time fishing and hunting and he was successful in a bear hunt While living in North Dakota, Al bagged a prize moose, affectionately named “Bullwinkle”. Everyone who met Al knew he always had a story to tell. Al loved to garden and often shared the fruits of his labor with others, especially rhubarb. In addition, he was a card player and spent many hours puttering around his yard. Even at age 94, Al drove himself everywhere and did all the shopping and cooking. He had a sweet tooth and bought large containers of various candies at Menards that could be found all over in the kitchen cabinets. Al was an outdoorsman who taught his children, grandchildren, and others the joys to be found in hunting, fishing, and the great outdoors. He was also an avid fossil and dinosaur hunter in North Dakota, Montana, Alaska, and Missouri. He was often called to schools and other places to share and discuss his bone and fossil collection of which he was so proud. Allen was a member of the American Legion Post 220 of Hollister/Branson.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ervin Snell, sister, Miriam Schaefer, and a niece Linda Scheib.
Allen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Connie and two children and their spouses, Henry and Paula Snell, of Portal, ND & Summerville, SC, Lisa and Troy Tabor, Phnom Phen, Cambodia; grandchildren, Dmetri Tabor, Branson, MO, Alexander Tabor, Branson, MO, Izak Snell, Grand Forks, ND, Maxx Snell, Bismarck, ND, Sophie Snell, Ladson, SC, Harrison Snell, Summerville, SC, and Sadie Snell, Summerville, SC, and several nieces, nephews.
