Memorial Services for Alva E. Baker, age 91 of Taneyville, MO. will be held at 10 am, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the family’s residence. Cremation is under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home of Branson.
He died at 12:35 am on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at his home.
He was born on July 30, 1921 in Blue Eye, MO, the son of Ollie and Louisa Spivey Baker. He was a Crew Chief and Mechanic in the United States Navy for 21 years and served during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. After his service he worked for the Civil Service until he retired.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Baker of the home: four step-children, Lisa Walker and husband Johnny of Forsyth, MO, Teresa Curry and husband Jim of Forsyth, MO, Darin Hodges and wife Katie of Taneyville, MO and Doug Hodges of Forsyth, MO, four grandchildren: Jeff Plott, Darion Dearth, Harleigh Hodges and Caseigh Hodges, one half-brother, Bob Baker, one step brother, Gene Jones, nieces, Darlene Schooley and husband Jack, Gloria Zampedri and husband Dave, Kay Mouchett and husband Jim and Deanna Harrington, several great nieces and great nephews and a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Rex Baker and Kermit Baker and a sister, Johni Baker.
Memorials are suggested to his granddaughter’s school, Taneyville Elementary School.
Al fought his last big battle and was victorious. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
