Alvin Ray Breshears was born November 8, 1924, near White Cloud north of Wheatland, Missouri. He departed this life and entered his heavenly home February 7, 2017, at the age of 92.
Alvin was one of six children born to Harry and Hettie Breshears. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Roy Lee Breshears and wife Fern, Harold Gene Breshears, Ralph Breshears, one sister Illa Martin and husband Lawrence, brother-in-law Leonard Payne, son William Alvin Breshears and grandson William James Breshears.
Alvin met his bride Agnes Floy Kendrick, at a little country Missionary Baptist Church, and they were married February 19, 1945, at the home of Rev. Jim L. Wright north of Wheatland. They were blessed with two Children, the late William Alvin in 1949 and Mary Sue in 1956.
He has six grandchildren, the late William James Breshears, Jerry Lee Breshears and wife Emily, Charles Dewayne Dryer and wife Amy, Jimmy Ray Breshears, Billy Joe Breshears, and Bobby Joe Breshears. He also had several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren in which he so cherished.
Alvin leaves behind his wife Floy, daughter, Mary Sue Dryer of Wheatland; sister Ina Payne of Independence, Mo.; sister-in-law Rita Breshears of California; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Alvin joined the Macedonia Baptist Church after finding salvation 1938. He later moved his letter to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he was an ordained deacon and superintendent for several years.
Alvin loved attending his “little white church” and serving God. He attended services faithfully as long as health permitted and always worked to make sure his family served as well. Alvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was an easy-going person who made many friends along the way.
Alvin grew up farming and breaking horses. He later was a trucker before he and Floy bought his parents’ farm north of Wheatland. Alvin was a hard worker making a living off the farm whether it was in the hayfields or cutting logs. Alvin was well known for his contraptions he used for bailing and hauling hay, his large loads of cedar logs and the numerous loads of hedge posts that he cut and sold. He loved to tell stories that could either bring a smile or a tear-about the fields, the woods, his animals, his family and the gospel.
Alvin also enjoyed singing. He sang several songs from his old song book all the way up until his health deteriorated. He and his daughter Mary Sue sang in many churches and even on the radio in Bolivar and Clinton.
The family would like to thank everyone who has helped Alvin and Floy over the years as their health declined. They are extremely appreciative of the prayers and concern in their time of sorrow. It is hoped that we all will meet again by living out Alvin’s legacy of finding salvation and serving God.
Alvin always ended his prayer by saying, “When you are through with me, take me home so I can praise you forever and ever,” and his prayer has come true.
