Alyce N. Jones, age 100, went to be with Jesus on Thursday October 8, 2015, at Woodland Manor in Springfield, MO. Alyce was born in Nixa, MO, on March 20,1915. Her priorities in life was being a homemaker, wife and mother. During her life she also worked at the Gospel Publishing House, the Hazel Atlas Glass factory in California, as a personal assistant, and in various other jobs.
Although Alyce only completed the 6th grade, she still was able to attend Central Bible College. She was a life-long learner and lived life to the fullest. She was a survivor in every sense of the word! Just some of her life experiences included: losing her dad at age 3 in the 1918 flu epidemic; as a young girl saving her cousin’s life after he fell into an irrigation ditch in Canyon City, Colorado; working in a TB sanitarium at age 15 after her mom died and she had no where else to live; surviving a serious car wreck which resulted in a broken neck at age 19; traveling Route 66 to California in her own car (which was unheard of in those days for a woman to do); serving as a caregiver for her husband for three years until he passed from emphysema and then raising two children as single mom; successfully surviving emergency brain surgery after taking a fall while mowing at age 87; and moving to Louisiana to be near her daughter at 96 years of age. She lived independently until her late 90s. She was fearless and never afraid to venture out on her own.
She always thought of others; loved Jesus, her family and friends; and was, as her cousin recently described her, a “Hero of Life”!
Her family would like to thank all the employees and direct care personnel who loved and took such good care of their mother, Alyce, while she resided at Woodland Manor.
Survivor’s include her son, Joseph L. Jones (Sue), of Acton, MA; and daughter, Karen McDonald-Bowman (Nathaniel) of Springfield, MO. She is also survived by her four grandchildren: Charles E. McDonald III, Bethany Bowman, and Kate & Emily Jones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Jones, of Morrisville, MO.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn North Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, from 6-8 pm. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 13, at 10 am, at Maple Park Cemetery, in Springfield.
