Annie
Bernice (Thomas) Colvin, age 96 of Bolivar, MO, joined the “cloud of witnesses”
who welcomed her home to be with her Lord, on January 22, 2013, at Parkview Healthcare
Facility. “Precious in the sight of the
Lord is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15). Born at Bonita, LA, of Morehouse Parish,
January 19, 1917, to the late Ace and Otis (Buffington) Thomas, she was a
homemaker, part-time postal worker at the Start, LA Post Office, and Licensed
Practical Nurse at Colonial Manor, Rayville, LA.
Bernice moved from Rayville to
Bolivar, MO, in July 1985. She taught
Sunday school for many years and was an active member of the Women’s Missionary
Union at Start Baptist and more recent member of First Baptist Church,
Bolivar.
Besides her parents, Bernice was
preceded in death by her husband, Euel R. Colvin; a sister Joe Mae Thomas
Pourchot; and a brother T.W. Thomas.
She is survived by her loving family:
daughter and son-in-law, Julia (Judy) Ann and Gordon Dutile of Bolivar, and
twin son and daughter and their spouses, Marvin and Wanda Colvin of Start, LA
and Myrtle and John Thomas, Jr. Hickman of Piqua, OH; four grandchildren and
spouses, Penny and Tim Clarkson, Houston, TX; Richie and Sarah Colvin, Monroe,
LA; Shonda and Jon Guthrie, Houston, TX; Elliot and Christina Colvin, Start, LA
and GiGi’s nine great-grandchildren: Campbell and Emma Clarkson, Houston;
Shelby and Allie Colvin, Monroe; Lucy
and Henry Guthrie, Houston; and Ellainey, Zachary and Amelia Colvin, Start.
Other survivors include sisters, Helen Thomas Musillami, Columbus, IN and Eva
Thomas Brown, Somerset, KY and one brother, James R. “Bud” Thomas, North
Vernon, IN.
Funeral services will be conducted at
2:00 PM, January 26, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, LA, by son-in-law, Dr.
Gordon Dutile. Music will be provided by Allen Nettles. Pallbearers will be:
Tim Clarkson, Jon Guthrie, Richie Colvin, Elliot Colvin, Jimmy Colvin, Benjie
Colvin, Ralph Cheek and Allen Nettles. Visitation will be prior to the service
from 12:00-2:00 PM. Burial will be in the Start Cemetery. Memorial
contributions are suggested to the missions program of First Baptist Church,
Bolivar, MO, or the missions program of Southwest Baptist University, Bolivar,
