Axel Haucke was a beloved husband, son, stepfather, brother, and friend. He passed away on September 10, 2021, with his loving wife, Stephanie, by his side, following a short illness.
Axel was born on March 8, 1977, to Dr. Harry Haucke and Elke Haucke in Neubrandenburg, Germany.
At the age of 16, he entered the United States as a foreign exchange student and attended Hillcrest High School in Springfield, Missouri in 1995. In 1999, he became a registered nurse and received his Bachelor’s of Nursing in 2004.
His 21 year nursing career in psychiatry started at St. John’s/Mercy, where he was so valued he was sponsored to become a permanent resident of the U.S. He was known for being a caring and compassionate nurse. In 2017, he began working at Cox Health, where he said the job was the best he’d ever had.
Axel was a soft spoken, intelligent man with a tender heart. He had an infectious laugh and an incredible sense of humor. He enjoyed weightlifting, cycling, swimming, and traveling. He was passionate about the environment and animals.
He leaves behind his wife, Stephanie, and stepson, Quinten, of Fair Grove, Missouri, his father, Dr. Harry Haucke, of Neustelitz, Germany, his mother, Elke Haucke (Bernd Hahn), of Neubrandenburg, Germany and brother, Frank Haucke (Stefanie Schmidt) of Berlin, Germany.
We are absolutely heartbroken and devastated to have lost Axel, so dear to us and way too soon. We are blessed and fortunate to have our memories with him. His spirit will remain in our hearts. To say forever would not be long enough.
Due to the immense loss and grief of the family, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Axel’s name to Rescue One of Springfield or any no-kill shelter of your choice.
Arrangements are through Greenlawn Funeral Home East, Springfield, Missouri.
