Ben Howard Gifford, 85, was born June 25, 1940, in Springfield, MO, and passed away on February 19, 2026, with his wife and daughter by his side.
Ben was born to Madge Ada (Dement) Gifford and Ben Edward Gifford. He grew up in Springfield with his five brothers and three sisters.
Ben had many jobs and careers during his life, but his most notable career was with the 20 years he served with the Springfield Fire Department. During his retirement he owned and operated a flower shop with his wife Lavon until 2009.
Ben was a jack of all trades especially when it came to cars, repairs of all kinds, and serving church. He enjoyed classic cars, racing, and collecting hot wheels and diecast cars. Attending and serving at Northside Christian Church was a long-time passion of his whether it was working with the youth or cooking and serving men’s breakfast.
Lastly, Ben loved being a grandpa. Whether it was his biological grandkids or kid that needed encouragement or a pat on the back!
Preceding Ben in death is his son Rockford Howard Gifford; both of his parents; his five brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife Lavon (Gilmore) Gifford of 67 years of marriage; daughter Anjanette Gifford; four granddaughters; six great grandkids; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Ben made a lasting impression on anyone that knew him and he will be deeply missed.
