It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude that we announce the passing of Bernard Keith McDonald, who was born on April 11, 1964, in Kansas City, KS, and departed from this life on January 16, 2025.
Bernard, a cherished husband and devoted member of the Springfield community, leaves behind a legacy of joy, laughter, and a love for life that will forever be remembered. Bernard was united in marriage to Jannice Johnson on April 9, 2005, in Springfield, MO.
Bernard was not only an entrepreneur but also a beloved friend to many. Those who knew him admired his work ethic, generosity, and the personal connections he forged with tenants and colleagues alike.
A steadfast Kansas City Chiefs fan, Bernard reveled in the thrill of the game and shared joyful moments filled with laughter while cheering for his team. He found joy in playing pool and enjoyed nights at the casinos, where his laughter and vibrant personality lit up the room.
Survivors include his wife, Jannice of Springfield, MO, daughter Holly Nelson of Dallas Texas; two granddaughters Ta’Niya Payne, A’Miyah Nelson both of Dallas, TX; two brothers John Bassett Jr. (Dorothy) of Americus, GA, and Emtee Milton McDonald of Kansas City, KS; brother/cousin Terrol McNeal Kansas City, KS; uncle Anthony Green Sr. Kansas City, KS; mother-in-law Odessa Johnson of Springfield, MO, who treated him as her own; six brothers-in-law, Johnnie Rollins of Springfield, MO, Sylvester Rollins of Springfield, MO, James Johnson Jr. (Zelda) of Springfield, MO, Charles Johnson of Springfield, MO, Larry Johnson (Latiqua) of Springfield, MO, Joele Johnson (Virginia) of St. Paul MN; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that pretty much covered the map.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Emtee and Stella McDonald; brother Richard McDonald; uncles, Eddie McNeal, Ellis McNeal, Willie McNeal, and Johnny McNeal; aunts Ruby Mae McNeal and Anna Joe Green.
In honor of Bernard’s remarkable life, the following services will be held to celebrate his legacy:
Visitation: January 25, 2025, from 11 AM – 12 PM, Greenlawn Funeral Home North, where friends and loved ones can gather to share memories and offer condolences.
Celebration of Life Service: A heartfelt tribute will take place on January 25, 2025, at 12:00 PM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, acknowledging the joyous spirit of Bernard and the impact he had on all our lives.
Burial: Bernard will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens on January 25, 2025, as we gather to honor his memory and say our final goodbyes.
