Bertha Gobel Olson, 95, of Springfield passed away Saturday, February 6, after a short illness. She was born near Scottsbluff, NE on November 25, 1914, the last of 12 children born to John and Elizabeth (Strachbein) Gobel. She was a graduate of Chadron State College and a public school teacher in Nebraska and Minnesota. She married Julius Oliver Olson from Walcott, ND, whom she had met during a summer session at Central Bible College. They pastored congregations in Wisconsin, Nebraska, and Minnesota. However, the greater part of their ministry was in Brazil where they spent 22 years teaching and helping establish congregations. Bertha was predeced in death by her husband, son John Julius Olson, and all her siblings. She is survived by son Timothy Charles Olson of Springfield, Missouri, daughter Ruth Elizabeth Abbott and husband Robert of Branson, and two grandchildren, Marcus Gobel Abbott of Kansas City, Missouri, and Julia Grace Abbott, wife of Chad Altemose, of Decatur, Georgia. She also leaves many dear nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on February 27 at Maranatha Village Chapel in Springfield.
