Beryl Ross Gordon was born on February 17, 1943, in Mt. Union, Iowa. His parents, Noble and Mildred (Halliwell) Gordon, later moved the family to Lebanon, Missouri, where he attended the local schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965 and was stationed at Sheppards AFB in Wichita Falls, TX.
Beryl married Sharon Fenzel in 1965. They had one son, Christopher, in 1967. The family moved to Fair Grove, Missouri in the early 1970s and maintained a small farm. The couple later divorced. Beryl worked for Lance, Inc. as a route salesman in southwest Missouri for many years.
Beryl married Betty Gay (Stowe) of Springfield, MO in 1980. They lived in Grandview and Belton, Missouri, before buying a farm near Cleveland, Missouri. He worked for RC Cola as a driver, then Haas Bakery.
Beryl’s real interest was farming. He raised a variety of animals for many years: rabbits, hogs, and cattle, but turned his attention to sheep farming. Beryl tended his flock for nearly 20 years with help from his beloved canine friend, Trooper.
Second to farming, Beryl was interested in genealogy. He and Betty spent nearly 30 years tracing their family’s roots and compiled a thorough history of their families going back many generations. They traveled across the U.S., visiting courthouses, cemeteries, and archives to research their family history and made contact with lost relatives along the way.
Betty passed away unexpectedly in 2007, and Beryl moved to Raymore. He continued researching with his friend, Paula Goddard, until he had to quit for health reasons.
Beryl loved to spend time with his grandchildren, Collin and Bridget Gordon, and their memories are filled with many happy Christmases. Visiting the farm was always an adventure.
Beryl passed away on October 4, 2026, at the Foxwood Spring Senior Living Center in Raymore where he lived for nearly two years. The staff loved him, and he enjoyed his time there.
Beryl was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Maysel Clark and Isolene Jones, and a brother, Bernard Gordon. He is survived by his son, Christopher Alan Gordon (Ballwin, MO), grandchildren, Collin Charles Gordon (Columbia, MO) and Bridget Alaina Gordon (St. Louis, MO), and sisters, Flora Fisher (Lebanon, MO), Jeanette Seibert (Aurora, MO), and Patricia McSpadden (Higginsville, MO).
Grandpa Beryl, we will always cherish our memories and miss you!
