Mrs. Bessie Lorene Voris, age 95 of Bolivar, MO, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2009, in the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility surrounded by her family. She was born March 12, 1914, at Burns, MO, to Earlie “Earl” and Alice (Hankey) Brown. She was saved at a young age at Schofield Missionary Baptist Church. She was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Voris September 22, 1935, and to this union one son was born. She was in a quilting club and she sang in a gospel quartet with her husband and friends for many years accompanied by their son Curtis on the piano. She was a member of the Halfway Missionary Baptist Church.
Her parents; her husband Joe; a brother and sister in-law Virgil Brown and Marguerite; a sister in-law Imogene Brown; and a granddaughter Shelley Anne Voris precede her in death.
She is survived by her son Curtis Voris and his wife Sandra of Bolivar, MO; two granddaughters: Carole Gray and her husband Mike of Brighton, MO, and Lori Buckner and her husband Lloyd of Flemington, MO; three great grandchildren: Dustin Gray, and Mikayla and Lance Buckner; a brother Eugene Brown of Buffalo, MO; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. She has been a blessing to us all and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Pitts Chapel with Bro.’s DeWayne Burdette, and Donnie Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Schofield Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvin Tinsley, Archie Robbins, John Eidson, Mike Brown, Mike Gray, Lloyd Buckner, Dustin Gray, and Lance Buckner. Recorded musical selections will be “Amazing Grace” by Jim Tennis, and “I Want To See Jesus” by Curtis Voris with Crystal River. Visitation will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the funeral home. Friends and family may sign a guest book or send private condolences at: www.greenlawnfuneralhome.com.
