Betty was born May 29, 1925 in Vernon County to L. Boyd Hauser and Anna Purcell Hauser. She passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2023 at the age of 97.
After graduation from Sheldon High School, she moved to Springfield to attend business school. Betty’s first job was in the office of Heer’s Department Store. Later she was the bookkeeper for Wilson Furniture on Commercial Street. Betty married Clifford Bigbee Sept. 19, 1948, and they shared 43 years until his death Nov. 14, 1991.
When their four children were young, she was a stay-at-home mom, busy with school and church activities. A longtime member of High St. Baptist Church, she served several years in the children’s department. In later years she worked as a secretary for Williams and Doling Schools, retiring in 1987.
Besides her husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Wiley, Roger, and Elton Hauser. Survivors include one son, Dan Bigbee and wife Kelly, Springfield; three daughters, Kathy Wingo (Richard), Springfield, Elaine Landmark (Jim), Evansville, IN, Annette Miles (Steve), Washington, MO; 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Patricia Gordon, Springfield, a sister-in-law, Jean Hauser, Lamar, and eight nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North with burial in Clear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday, June 4, 2:00-4:00 PM with funeral services on Monday, June 5, 10:00 AM.
