Betty Jo (Lander) Gardner, 100, of Springfield, MO. passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The Gardens. Betty Jo (Lander) Gardner, 100, of Springfield, MO. passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at The Gardens. Betty was born on February 10, 1924, in Fredonia, Kansas, to Orlen and Ruby (Hamilton) Lander. She was a 1942 graduate of Fredonia High School. She was a retired secretary for Joe Roberts Real Estate Appraiser. She retired at the age of 82, after working for them for 20 years. Betty had been a member of The Central Christian Church, since 1964.In her spare time, she loved doing Crossword Puzzles, Cryptograms, quips and jumbles, and she also enjoyed playing Go Fish and Old Maid with her great-grandchildren.
On February 11, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to William Lloyd Gardner Jr. in Wichita, Kansas. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; Orlen Glenn and and Ruby Lee (Hamilton) Lander, and by her daughter: Sandy K. Bumgarner. Betty is survived by her two daughters: Vicki Nelson and her husband, Bill, and Janet Frazier, six grand-children and their spouses: Christopher and Susie Nelson, Stacy and Jeremiah Shelton, Kelly and David Long; Rachel and Philip McElroy, Lori and Todd Winesburg, and Melanie and Kendell Self, sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her very good friend, Jean Van Sant.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at Central Christian Church. A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, April 24, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the charity of the persons choice. They would also like to offer a special thank you to The Gardens Staff and Good Shepherd Hospice.
