Betty Jo Roy was born March 14, 1930, in Springfield, Missouri, to Homer Lee and Ina Mae Gilmore. Beginning in 1936 her family began attending High Street Baptist Church where she accepted Christ as her Saviour at a young age. High Street was an instrumental part of her life where she grew in faith, made lifelong friends, and began playing piano. She traveled with youth singing groups and quartets as a teenager and young adults playing piano at church gatherings, classes, and often in small church plants across Southwest Missouri.
She met Donald L Roy formerly of Mansfield, Missouri, in early 1953 and they married October 9, 1953, at High Street Baptist Church. After jobs at Schaffitzel’s Greenhouse, Frisco Railroad, and Gospel Publishing House Betty became a homemaker after the birth of their first son, Stephen L. Roy, in 1960. In 1969 they welcomed their second son, Gregory S. Roy
Through the years Betty was known for her love of fashion, wittiness, and deep love for her family and children. Her faith in Christ and the Word of God remained a focal point that anchored and defined her life.
Betty is survived by her sons Stephen L. Roy and his wife Joanne of Clayton, NC, Gregory S. Roy and his wife Teri of Rogersville, MO; grandchildren, Ashley Hill and her husband Michael, Daniel Roy, Lauren Cantwell and her husband Cody, Nathan Roy and his wife Jessica, Emma Roy; four great-grandchildren and a fifth great-grandchild expected this Fall.
She will be greatly missed by both family and friends. The family would like to thank and acknowledge the workers, staff and nurses at both Montclair Retirement Community and Copper Rock Nursing Home who all lovingly referred to her as “Miss Betty.”
