Betty Lou Robberson was born September 17, 1927, to Frank M. Robberson and Beulah Crumpley Robberson in Springfield, MO, where she grew up and attended Springfield Public Schools. She graduated from Springfield Central High School in 1945.
Betty was converted to Christ in a service at High Street Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian the rest of her life. She was a member of Springfield’s Central Assembly of God.
After high school, she attended Missouri State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later returned to SMU and earned a teaching certificate. She also earned a Master of Education degree at Drury University.
Following college graduation she served as private secretary to Assemblies of God General Superintendent Wesley R. Steelberg until March 29, 1952, when she and Warren F. McPherson were united in marriage. They were married (nearly/more than) 65 years. To this union were born two sons: David Warren and Philip Marshall.
Betty was a public school teacher and taught fifth grade for seven years at Mark Twain Elementary School in Springfield. In later years she served as a substitute teacher for public schools in Wichita, KS and Springfield, MO.
She worked side by side with her husband in pastoral ministries in Newport, RI; Akron, OH; Parsons, KS; and Wichita, KS. When her husband served on the staff of the Rex Humbard Television Ministries out of Akron, OH, she served with him as the private tutor of two teenage Humbard children and six Humbard grandchildren.
Betty departed this life April 3, 2026, at the age of 98 years.
She was preceded in death by Warren McPherson.
She is survived by sons David of Springfield and Philip of Overland Park, KS; granddaughter Stephanie of Denver, CO; grandson Thomas of Phoenix, AZ; and many dear friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice or to the Warren F. and Betty L. McPherson Scholarship Fund at Evangel University, 1111 N. Glenstone Ave., Springfield, MO 65802.
A graveside service will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
