Bill Slous was wrapped in God’s arms and taken home on Monday, January 24, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 15, 1930 in Greenup County, KY to the late John Cecil and Mary (Smith) Sloas.
Bill was united in marriage to Rita Hochanadel on October 1, 1952 in Hoisington, KS and they were blessed with 8 children. He proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked in the Kansas oil fields and for the Marlette Mobile Home in Great Bend, KS, for 25 years. Bill enjoyed baking, cooking and inventing his own recipes. Bill won numerous awards at the county fair for his cornbread and apple pies. He was a wonderful gardener of flowers and vegetables.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sally and infant brother, and son Mark.
Survivors include his loving wife of the home, Rita; children Susan Slous, Douglas Slous and Michael Slous all of Springfield, Robert Slous and wife Tracey of Branson and Scott Slous and wife Karen of Wichita, KS and Dan Slous and wife Heather of Salida, CO and Nita Brack of Tucson, AZ; 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren; siblings John Sloas, Lewis Sloas, Karen Risner and Christine Rose all of Ohio; and numerous other loving relatives and a host of friends.
A visitation will be held tonight from 5:30-7:30 pm at Greenlawn South Funeral Home.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date in Hoisington, KS under the direction of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.
