It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Billie Fredric Werdeman on January 28, 2024, at The Neighborhoods of Quail Creek in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on October 15, 1931, in Green Forest, Arkansas, to George Arthur “Pete” and Vera Pauline (Brauer) Werdeman. He was known as Bill or Bud depending on whether or not you were from Arkansas. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who touched the lives of many throughout his memorable journey.
Bill served his country in Korea during the Korean War with the United States Air Force. Enlisting on July 7, 1951, and honorably discharged on July 6, 1955, Bill achieved the rank of S/Sgt (T) during his time in service. His commitment to his country exemplified his unwavering loyalty and love for the land he called home.
On June 14, 1957, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lillian Elaine Shiner. From this union, a son, Andrew, was adopted. Bill worked diligently as a sales representative for Lily Tulip for almost 30 years before working with a local arts and crafts distributor and ultimately retiring.
Bill’s life was one filled with joy, laughter, and a genuine love for those around him. With his quick wit and sense of humor, he brightened countless days and created everlasting memories. Whether it was a game of golf or bowling, Bill embraced the competitive spirit and the camaraderie that came with it. He and his beloved wife, Elaine, played countless rounds of Bridge and other games, bringing friends and family together in moments of laughter and friendly competition. Bill and Elaine were also members of Kings Way United Methodist Church and regularly attended services.
A man of simple tastes, Bill found solace in the comfort of old western shows and the timeless humor of MASH. He and Elaine also spent many afternoons watching golf on TV and following the players.
Bill was welcomed into heaven by his parents and two sisters, Wilma Tate and Cathy Burkett.
Surrounded by the love and support of his cherished family, Bill is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Werdeman. Bill’s legacy also lives on through his son, Andy Werdeman, and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Werdeman, who admired and cherished their father’s limitless love and support. The joy of his life were his grandsons, Drew Werdeman and Logan Werdeman, who were blessed with the opportunity to experience the warmth and wisdom of their beloved grandfather. He is also survived by his nephew, Kevin Burkett, and two nieces, Nancy Stocker and Susan Englet; other family members and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 2, 2024, in Greenlawn Funeral Home, North from 12:00-1:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 pm also in the funeral home. Bill will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Missouri following the service.
