Bobbie Jane Cottengim, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June
28, 2012. Bobbie was born on March 8, 1925, to Cody and Ada Chandler of
Hartville, Missouri. She graduated from Hartville High School where she met
the love of her life, Charles Cottengim. They were married on September 26,
1946, and spent the first years of marriage traveling to the many sporting
events Charlie was involved in. They moved to Springfield in 1954 and had
two daughters, Robin and Becky. Bobbie was a wonderful wife, mother, and
grandmother and her selfless dedication to those around her has had a
lifelong positive effect on those she touched.
Bobbie was a member of the National Baton Twirling Association for over 30
years, attending countless competitions where her children and students of
her children competed across the United States. She spent endless hours
dedicated to making costumes, attending practices, and traveling to
competitions, never missing a performance. She was affectionately known as
“Mrs. C” and in 1984 received the Jean Milum Memorial Award in recognition
of her contributions to baton twirling.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Charles, three
brothers, Jap, Jack, and Joe, and a sister, Marjorie Coday. She is survived
by daughter Robin and her husband, Alan Reed, and daughter Becky Deeds and
grandchildren Charlie, Chandler and Chatauna Deeds, all of Rogersville,
Missouri. A sister, Bonnie and husband Fred Harrison of Springfield and a
host of nephews and nieces.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 2, at Greenlawn Funeral
Home East with burial following at the National Cemetery on Seminole.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 1, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at Greenlawn
Funeral Home East. Memorial donations may be made to South Haven Baptist
Church’s Carpenter’s Kids Preschool and Kindergarten.
