Bonnie Jean Harris passed away Monday, April 4th at 2:30 a.m., in the Magnolia Square Nursing & Rehab Center in Springfield, Mo., with her sister-in-law and niece at her side. Jean and her twin sister, Bettie June, were born on August 26, 1927 to Reverend and Mrs. K.H. Lawson in Venice, Ill. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John W. Harris; her parents, Reverend and Mrs. K.H. Lawson; sisters, Bettie June Klug and Zelma Stanphill; and brother, Sherdell Lawson.
Although Jean never had children of her own, she is survived by several loving nieces and nephews, Lori Morgan and her husband Ron and great-niece, Mandy Morgan, Jeffrey Lawson, of Springfield, Lane Palmer and his wife Bev, of St. Louis, Susan Beckman, of Grandview, Mo., Kyle Palmer, of Kansas City, Mo., Dr. Chris Palmer and his wife Dr. Nida Palmer, of St. Louis, Mo., Michael Palmer, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Peggy Lawson, of Springfield.
Jean was an active member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Naval Fleet Reserve. She also ministered to many during her life with her beautiful singing voice as part of “The Travelers” singing group during the 60’s and 70’s. Prior to her illness she attended Park Crest Assembly of God.
Jean was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. A special thanks to the loving and caring staff at Magnolia Square Nursing Center.
Services have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South. Visitation will be held Tuesday, From 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be Wed., at 1 p.m., in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery.
