Boyd Eldon Harmon, age 90, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at his home in Willard, Missouri, surrounded by his loving family following a stroke and brief illness.

Born on March 11, 1936, in Springfield, Eldon was the son of the late Merle and Adria Harmon. He attended Springfield Senior High School and later enrolled at Drury University. His collegiate career lasted exactly three days because, according to Eldon, “he didn’t learn anything he didn’t already know.” Choosing to “disenroll,” he instead graduated from the “School of Hard Knocks,” where he majored in starting his own business through hands-on experience.

Eldon was a truly self-made man who dedicated over 50 years to the construction industry. Under the mentorship of his employer and close friend, Claude Simmons, Eldon became an architect and civil engineer, serving Southwest Missouri, Eastern Kansas, and Oklahoma. In 1980, he went into business for himself, becoming the President and CEO of Christian Construction Company. Eldon retired in 2011 at the age of 74. Known for his honesty, integrity, and unmatched work ethic, Eldon left a lasting impact on colleagues and countless communities by truly living out the “Christian” name in his business.

Eldon married Wilma Fay Anglen, his high school sweetheart and the absolute love of his life. Together, they shared 67 beautiful years of marriage, building a life centered entirely on family, faith, and friendship.

In 1958, Eldon became a charter member of the New Testament Baptist Church, which was later renamed the Baptist Temple. Deeply passionate about children, Fay and Eldon served together in youth ministry as directors of “Junior Church” for 47 years. In this role, they became master puppeteers, storytellers, and flannelgraph experts—leaving generations of children with memories of “Barney’s Barrel.”

Affectionately known as “Papa Sir,” Eldon will be remembered for the things he loved most: God, his family, laughter, and his uniquely ornery sense of humor. He loved to travel, taking his family to countless national parks across the 48 contiguous states. He also had a legendary appreciation for food, specifically Dr Pepper, Hershey bars, and “killer dogs” from local gas stations. Eldon was truly one of a kind and will be deeply missed.

Survivors and Preceding Family

Eldon is survived by his four children: Clint (Lita), Clay (Connie), Penny (Craig), and Carey; his ten grandchildren: Tyrel, Angela, Jennifer, Shawna, Brandon, Jeff, Chelsey, Skylar, Heaven, and Dalton; and his many beloved great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his cherished wife, Fay.
