Brandon Edward Shane was born in Springfield MO on March 25, 1990. He was the first child of Phillip and Valerie (White) Shane. Brandon was later joined by his baby sister, Erica. Brandon was very protective of his sister and while he may have given her a hard time, he would not allow anyone else to do the same.
Brandon accepted Jesus as his savior when he was 9 in Sunday School at Grant Avenue Baptist Church. While we miss him dearly, we rest in the knowledge that he is in heaven rejoicing with those that have gone before him and that we will one day be with him again.
Brandon was full of life and many interests. As a child he loved sports, playing baseball, football and wrestling. He even tried soccer and basketball for a season—but he was not allowed to tackle anyone in soccer and basketball was way too much running he said. Brandon continued to love sports in high school and was on the varsity teams for wrestling, football and golf at Central High School where he graduated in 2008.
Brandon also fell in love with music. He started playing cello in elementary school, and quickly moved to trombone and then tuba in middle school. He played tuba at Central and during his freshman year could be seen taking off his shoulder pads and running around the field at halftime to march the show and then put his pads on and play the second half. His love of music continued outside of high school, where he began to learn to play the Bass and dabbled in other instruments every he got a chance.
Brandon loved superheroes, Star Wars. Dungeons and Dragons and shared many other interests in the sci-fi fantasy world. He became involved with Visioncon while still in high school. He volunteered to be a “gopher” at the convention, just so he could get in free. He later became part of the organization and eventually was named president of Visioncon. He loved that Visioncon was not just a place that those who shared his interests could get together, but that they were able to support many different charities while he was there.
He had a loving heart and loved kids and animals. He was “Uncle” Brandon to some of his close friends’ children and loved spoiling them. His first pet was “Speedy” his 3-legged turtle. He eventually convinced his sister that they needed a puppy, even though she was scared of dogs! He was then able to adopt his faithful companion Midnight. Brandon later had 3 cats, Lana, Bulbasaur, and Grey Spots that loved him almost as much as he loved them.
Brandon met the love of his life, April. After a time, she finally gave in to his charms and they began a relationship. Brandon and April had several wonderful years together and were planning on a long future together. He deeply loved her and was looking forward to their lives together.
