Bruce V. Dickens, 86, of Springfield passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 in St. John’s Hospital. He was born March 10, 1924, north of Springfield. He was saved by our Lord Jesus Christ during World War II and was baptized in April of 1956.
Bruce was preceded in death by his mother and father, Annabelle (See) and Richard Dickens; son, Ricky; brothers and their wives, John and Doris Dickens and Clifford and Edith Dickens; sister, Sarah and husband, Homer Coffey; and brother-in-law, Clell Arnold.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Dickens; daughters, Pat Germany of Springfield, and Kathy Wilken and husband Ron of Preston; son, Ronnie Dickens and wife Denise of Liberal; sister, Annabelle Arnold of Republic; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bruce served in World War II in Europe (65th Quartermaster Division). He was a truck driver under the Quartermaster Corps. His accolades included 2 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, European Theater Campaign Ribbon, Overseas Service Bars, and a Victory Ribbon.
He was employed by Hoey Coal Company, The Union Stockyards, Selmeir-Peerless Towel Company, and The U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners. Mr. Dickens was a realtor for 40 years in Fair Grove and surrounding areas. Bruce also had a love of farming.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. in Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
Services will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in Greenlawn Funeral Home North at 1 P.M. Burial is to follow in Robberson Prairie Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sunshine Baptist Church, American Diabetes Association, or the DAV.
