Bruce and I were so fortunate to know a man like Gene over the past 18 years. Always enjoyed visits with him and Pat. Gene's fish fries were always a special event that the whole town enjoyed when held at the fire department. Gene will be missed always and we'll remember all the good times with him. Pat and all of Gene's beloved Family. A white-hated guy who loved C of O and all it stood for. He was not in my Class of '58, but we adopted him. Quiet, soft spoken, a dear friend., he loved us with some mighty good fish. My bro, Ebb Johnson, would totally agree, as Gene supplied fish to his Church. He always reminded me that even though I knew him first, he claimed Gene as a fish frying buddy and friend, too. God chose him to go on ahead. See you there, Gene.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Pat. I think of you all often. Gene’s fish fry was the only fish I would eat. He made good on his promise of no bones. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. May God keep you and hold you close.

Prayers for the entire family, he was loved by many. I wasn't as close to him as I was to my own grandmother Dolly or his sister Ida. I wish you all comfort at this difficult time.
