Bunny Joy Harris (née York), lovingly known as the “Real Bunny,” passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 82. Born on September 11, 1943, in St. Louis to Crafford “Dutch” and Esther York, Bunny lived a life filled with love, hard work, and cherished memories.
Bunny spent her formative years in Kansas City, where she lived with her parents and attended Turner High School, class of 1961. It was during these early years that she began cultivating the qualities that would define her life: a deep love for family and friends and an enduring ability to form meaningful connections with those around her.
She married Ed Harris in 1960 and they made their home in Kansas City before welcoming their two children, Tim and Marcie. In 1974, they moved to a small farm just outside Collins, Missouri. Together, they built a life centered on hard work and family values. While both worked full-time jobs—Bunny eventually finding her calling as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Service—they also managed the demands of farming and raising their children. Their marriage spanned an incredible 61 years until Ed’s passing in 2021.
Bunny’s career with the USPS was marked by dedication and service. Whether assisting customers at the post office or delivering packages on the weekend, she took pride in her work and brought warmth to those she served.
Outside of her professional life, Bunny found joy in simple yet profound pleasures. She loved gardening and took great pride in nurturing plants that brought beauty to her surroundings. She treasured outings with friends and time spent with family above all else. Her travels to new places were a source of excitement and adventure, while quiet moments reading or enjoying a cold Coca-Cola brought her peace. A frequent visitor to Walmart, Bunny embraced life’s everyday moments with enthusiasm.
Her legacy is carried forward by her surviving family: her brother Joe York; son Tim Harris and his wife Sharon; daughter Marcie Harris Hayes and her husband Mike; dear family member Teressa Harris; grandchildren Mackenzie Harris and Anthony Harris (wife Haleigh); great-grandchildren Onnalynn and Ayden (Mackenzie), as well as Dawson, Ellen, and Lettie (Anthony). She also leaves behind a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish their memories of her kindness and vibrant spirit. Bunny was predeceased by her beloved husband Ed Harris; parents Dutch and Esther York; and brother Don York.
Known for her remarkable ability to make lasting friendships wherever she went, Bunny touched countless lives with her warmth and genuine care for others. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
May Bunny Joy Harris rest in peace as those who loved her find comfort in celebrating a life well-lived.
