Burl Burrus “Buck” McCullough, 63 of Springfield, MO died Wednesday, September 22 at Methodist Hospital in Houston, TX following lung transplant surgery on September 10.
Buck was born in Amarillo, TX to BB McCullough and Rubye Whitehead Howard. His family moved to Missouri when he was a few months old. He graduated from Springfield Central High in 1965. He served four years with the Marine Corps including a tour in Viet Nam. He married in 1970, and he and his wife, Donna moved to South Carolina where he finished his fourth year in the Corps. Returning to Springfield, he completed his college education at SMSU (Missouri State) and then worked for the Social Security Administration. During retirement he enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He spent many hours volunteering with numerous patriotic organizations including the American Legion (Post 639), Marine Corps League, Patriot Guard Riders, and Boy Scouts of America. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason.
Buck is survived by his wife, Donna, son James McCullough and grandson Jimmy all of Springfield, his sister Jo Yudess of Buffalo, NY and her daughters Jennifer Ponicki and Rebecca Reilly and his great niece
Jaime Ponicki. He is also survived by his step father Richard Howard.
Visitation will be from 1-3PM Sunday and Memorial Services will be on Monday at 1PM at Greenlawn East. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
