Burley Gene Henson was born April 16, 1956, in Roswell, New Mexico, to Walter Lee Henson and Olive Nola Morgan Henson. He was the third of four children. Burley passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026, at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri, surrounded by family. He is survived by his devoted wife of almost 39 years, Walda Susan Henson of Springfield, Missouri; sister, Linda Sue Henson Ruhs (Kenneth E.) of Springfield, Missouri; brother, Jerry Lee Henson (Mary) of New Mexico; brother-in-law, Leigh Ervine of West Virginia; 24 nieces and nephews and many cousins throughout the United States; and his dear friend, Don Cox. Burley also leaves behind his beloved parakeets, Louie, Missie, and Sammy, who brought him much happiness and companionship.
Burley was married to Walda Susan Ervine on July 18, 1987, in Madison, West Virginia. They had no children. He worked at Red Lobster restaurant in Springfield, Missouri, and retired after 30 years.
Burley enjoyed volunteering at Silver Dollar City, and his unique woodcarvings were admired by many. He was an avid bike rider and completed the MS 150 bike ride several times. He also crocheted many colorful afghans that were given away to friends and family, and some were sent on mission trips to be given away by Second Baptist Church members. While growing up in New Mexico, Burley became an Eagle Scout and was a member of The Order of the Arrow.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, 441 West Battlefield Road, Springfield. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by the service at 12 p.m.
