David “Mr. David” Phelps of Ozark, Mo went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 3:30am Tuesday, November 13, 2018. He passed away resting peacefully in his home while surrounded by his family. David married the love of his life Mary Kathryn Wheeler on December 23, 1966. They shared 52 years together. David was a graduate of Glendale High School Class of 1965. David served in the Army Corps of Engineers from 1966-1968. David worked from 1969 – 1999 for City Utilities as a lineman. David & Kathy Phelps along with Don and Mary Wheeler founded Family Flowers in 1985, a family owned business still open today. David was a member of St Luke United Methodist Church, a founding member of Christ United Methodist Church and currently a member of Schweitzer United Methodist Church. David served on the Board of Directors of the Blu Current Credit Union for 20 years, 13 of which he served as the Chairman. David also served on the Ozark Chamber of Commerce and the board of New Covenant Academy. David was an avid St Louis Cardinals Fan, he and his son attended the memorable Games 6 and 7 in 2011, where he saw his Cardinals win the World Series. As Spring Training ticket holders, he and his son attended Spring Training yearly in Jupiter, FL. David was a popular figure with the players and staff.
David was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Lola Dean Phelps, father-in law and mother in-law Don and Mary Wheeler of Springfield, MO. David is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn “Kathy” Phelps, Daughter Rachelle “Shelley” Phelps-Girth of Ozark, MO and his son Brett Phelps of St Louis, MO. He also leaves 2 grand-daughters Kayleigh Breshell and Kenzi Girth of Ozark, Mo and brother Steve Phelps of Springfield, MO
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, November 16, 2018 at Greenlawn East 3540 E Seminole Springfield, MO 65804 followed by interment at Hazelwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
