Carl Eugene Arnall, a deeply loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, died October 30, 2023 at home surrounded by family after a cancer diagnosis at age 90.
Born on August 27, 1933 in Springfield, Missouri to Frank and Anna (Phillips) Arnall, Carl grew up in a house full of boys – the sixth of eight sons. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Leroy, Clarence, Eldredge, Chester, Lester, Richard, and Robert.
On June 2, 1950 Carl married the love of his life Lois Walters. Their 73-year marriage was the solid foundation for the expansive family they built together. Early in their married life they had three children, Becky Easterwood (Ken), Gary Arnall (Linda) and Dianna Letterman (Tom).
Carl served the nation in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, sailing aboard the U.S.S. Ajax and U.S.S. The Sullivans. After an honorable discharge, he returned to Springfield and worked at the Lily-Tulip Corporation, as a Union ironworker, and, after his retirement, at the Springfield Public Schools, Ye Olde Buggy Bath, and Enterprise Car Rental.
Carl is survived by his wife and three children, their spouses and nine grandchildren: Brian Dunning (Chanda), Dan Arnall (Jill), Brad Dunning (Marla), Shane Letterman (Julie), Matt Arnall (Deanna), Jared Letterman (Amy), Ben Arnall (Jamie), Shira Hanson (Kevin) and Brent Dunning (Lindsay). His legacy includes the blessing of 21 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren and an innumerable number of friends and neighbors who enjoyed his company, conversation, and cantankerous spirit.
In life, he was a member of Restoration Church and a founding member of the Walnut Lawn Church of God. While the entire family mourns his loss, they celebrate his reunion in heaven with his Savior Jesus Christ.
A celebration of his life will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield this weekend. The visitation is Sunday, November 5 from 5 to 7pm. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6 at 10am. A burial with military honors will be held immediately following the service, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
