Carlene (Sims) Bischoff passed away Saturday, April 30th in her home after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer. She was born to Chester and Lena Sims on June 1, 1940 in Wright County, Mo.
Carlene graduated from Springfield (Central) High School in 1958 and was united in marriage to Larry Bischoff on December 19, 1964. Carlene worked at Royal McBee in the 1960’s and then for many years at the Springfield Public Schools Administrative Offices. She was active in her church, Hamlin Memorial Baptist of Springfield, serving as a Sunday School teacher for over 40 years and mentoring scores of young women. In recent years, Carlene enjoyed volunteering with both the American Cancer Society and the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. She also enjoyed reading, music and anything involving her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Doug and his wife, Wendy, Houston, Texas; daughter, Gina Green and her husband, Tony, of Springfield; grandchildren, Lucas, Bailey, Micah and Ruth Ann Bischoff of Houston, Texas and Nathan and Allison Green, of Springfield. She is also survived by three sisters, Glenda Hays, of Springfield, Carol and her husband Freeman Kleier, of Springfield, and Myria Hart, of Springfield; three brothers-in-law, Ron Holden, of Kimberly City; Leon Bischoff, Bill Bischoff and his wife Judy, all of Springfield; as well as 13 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Larry; a sister, Faye Holden; and a nephew, Steven Bischoff.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 4th, at 11 a.m., in Hamlin Memorial Baptist Church, Springfield with Pastors Pat Findley and Calvin Maberry officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m., in Greenlawn North Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery North.
