Carol Ann Lee, 76, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026. She was born on February 8, 1950, and leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, unwavering love, and a family forever shaped by her kindness.
She was born to her parents, William and Mary Lee, and was raised as a true Roman Catholic. Once she and Doyle got married and the couple moved to Springfield, it was at this time she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and converted to Southern Baptist.
On June 28, 1966, Carol married the love of her life, Doyle Wayne Lee, Sr., while he was serving in the United States Navy. Their love story was one of devotion and determination—Doyle would often go AWOL just to spend time with Carol, a testament to how deeply they loved one another. Together they built a beautiful life and shared more than 57 years of marriage before Doyle’s passing in October 2023.
Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Doyle Wayne Lee, Sr., and her parents, William and Mary Lee. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Doyle Lee, Jr.; Tony Lee and his wife, Freida; Carey Shine and her husband, Christopher; Cheri Lee and her wife, Caldonia; and Timmy Lee. She also leaves behind a plethora of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory. Carol was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was truly the glue that held her family together, always offering love, encouragement, and a listening ear. To her family and even those who had only just met her, she was simply “Nana.” Her warm heart and welcoming spirit made everyone feel like they belonged.
Being a stay-at-home mom was one of Carol’s greatest joys, though she affectionately referred to herself as a “domestic engineer.” She poured her heart into caring for her home and family, creating a lifetime of treasured memories. Whether it was family camping and fishing trips, mornings spent sharing coffee with her children, or evenings filled with laughter, Carol made ordinary moments unforgettable. One family story that never failed to bring a smile was the day Timmy innocently picked up a skunk—to Carol’s absolute horror. Coffee and conversation became treasured daily traditions. She faithfully called Carey and Cheri each morning to chat over coffee, unless Doyle Jr. was already sitting at her kitchen table enjoying a cup with her. She also knew that a good sense of humor was essential, especially with Tony constantly keeping everyone on their toes with his pranks. Carol loved life’s simple pleasures. She enjoyed bowling, trying her luck on the slot machines at the casino, tending to her beautiful flowers and plants with her gifted green thumb, and spending time outdoors. She had a deep love for animals and delighted in feeding the squirrels in her backyard while Doyle lovingly fed the birds. Her faithful cocker spaniel, Oliver, was never far from her side and was one of her greatest companions. Music was always part of her home. When her children were young, they often heard Carol singing along to the classic country songs of Dolly Parton, Waylon Jennings, and other country legends. She also loved settling in to watch favorite television shows such as Supernatural, Charmed, and Ghost Whisperer.
More than anything, Carol’s greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely. Her family wishes they could tell her one more time not to worry—they’ll take it from here. They hope she knows just how deeply she was loved, and how profoundly she will be missed. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 3, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with the funeral service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made to Rescue One or the local Humane Society, honoring Carol’s lifelong love and compassion for animals.
