Carol Nan Shelton, age 81, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on November 24, 2020 while surrounded by her loving family. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri on January 18,1939 to Frank and Eunice Sifford.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, her parents, and one son, Gerald Andrew. She is survived by her 3 sons; Randy (Rachel), Donny (Diane), and Scott (Melissa), four granddaughters; Corbin, Emma (Ethan), Gracie, and Maddie, along with four step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren and one sister Ruth Anne Toepfer.
After meeting in high school, Carol and Gerald married and moved to Springfield in 1963 as co-founders of Ozark Fire Extinguisher. In 1969, the couple co-founded Fire Master Fire Apparatus and due much to her devotion and dedication continues today as a successful business. Carol felt incredibly blessed to have worked side-by-side with her husband and sons every day for over 50 years.
We learned many great lessons from Carol over the years: always rinse your paper plate before throwing it away to keep the trash from smelling; even the greatest cook should know the best carry-out restaurants in town; when you leave the house, always look your best. Carol’s greatest pleasures in life were spending time with her sons, grandchildren and extended family. In the early years, Carol and Gerald would always look forward to hosting huge extended-family gatherings at the lake and at their home creating memories that filled Carol’s heart and that have lasted the entire family a lifetime. Carol would say that the number of hamburgers they grilled at the lake for her sons and loved ones could fill a semi-truck.
Anyone who knew Carol, knew her for her unseen acts of generosity throughout her life for which she will see unimaginable eternal rewards.
A small graveside service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to Convoy of Hope, a charity which Carol always held near and dear to her heart.
