Carol Smith, 72, of Springfield passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. John’s Mercy hospital with family members at her side.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Bass Chapel Cemetery, Highway 125, Strafford, Missouri, with Rev. Jim Kendrick officiating. Mrs. Carol Smith will be laid to rest close to her sons in Bass Chapel Cemetery, Strafford, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, 3506 N. National Ave., Springfield, Missouri.
Mrs. Carol Smith was born March 19, 1941, in Springfield, a daughter of Oren Eugene and Altah Snodgrass. Carol married Jerry D. Smith on July 21, 1957, in Springfield, and to this union four children were born. They celebrated their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries by renewing their vows with friends and family members. She was a devoted wife and mother. Her laughter and joyful spirit will be missed. “You were more than my wife: You were my best friend.”
Mrs. Carol Smith is survived by her mother, Altah Snodgrass of Springfield; husband, Jerry Smith; sister, Deborah Cantrell of Virginia; her two daughters; three daughters-in-law; one son-in-law; ten grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren, and their families. Daughter: Zanita and Robert Esther of Springfield and their four children, Amber and Mark Timmerman and their children Peyton and Raeghan Timmerman, Adam Arnold, Michael and Kelsey Esther; Daughter: Cherri Stockstill of St. Louis and three sons, Joshua and Kelly Stockstill and their son Noah, Zachariah Stockstill, and Malachi Stockstill; daughters-in-law, Becky Schuchard and son, David Smith of Springfield; Lisa Smith and daughter, Erica and Ed Howard, and son Garrett Smith of Rogersville; Becky Blankenship Kieckbusch of Lebanon; niece, Gretchen and David Drury and their children Nicholas and Grace Drury of Virginia. Brother-in-law Darrell Smith and wife Jackie. She is also survived by a host of extended family and friends.
Mrs. Carol Smith is preceded in death by her sons, Aaron Wade Smith and Ronald Dean Smith as well as her father, Oren Eugene Snodgrass, nephew Shane Smith, and sister-in-law Alma Jean Adams and her husband John.
Mrs. Carol Smith was baptized in a river near Elkland, Missouri in her youth as well as at High Street Baptist Church as an adult where she was a member for her remaining years.
During her lifetime Carol was a homemaker, water aerobics instructor, floral designer, decorator, and creative engineer. Carol enjoyed many hours of fun with her grandchildren, who called her Grama Carol, playing SkipBo, swimming, camping, fishing, going West to play Beatle Bailey till midnight and cooking their favorites when they came over. Carol always wore a smile and her tone of voice was cheerful and eager to get acquainted. Everyone, that knew her, loved and adored her. Carol, Mom, Grama Carol will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.
