Lillian Carol Vermillion of Springfield, Missouri was born December 20, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to George McKinney and Ruby Graham McKinney. Carol claimed victory over her 3 ½ year battle with cancer on July 10, 2010 in Springfield, Missouri. She traveled to her new home in heaven to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Carol was raised in a Christian home and professed Jesus as her Savior at a young age.
She was united in marriage to James (Jim) E. Vermillion on June 5, 1965 in Bolivar, Missouri, and they recently celebrated 45 years of marriage. Carol and Jim raised three sons, Todd, Jordan and Josh.
Carol is survived by Jim and sons Todd and wife Manda Vermillion, Jordan and wife Erica Vermillion, and Josh and wife Krissy Vermillion. Eight grandchildren survive her: Jeremy, Ashley, Allison, Payson, Jacob, Seth, Sarah, and Tyler. She is also survived by her parents George and Ruby McKinney of Bolivar, Missouri, niece Kimberly Enyart Cunningham, nephew Jody Enyart, and brother-in-law Dan Vermillion.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Enyart Peterie. Carol was an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri and treasured singing and traveling with the choir, and serving on several mission trips. She enjoyed reading books and scrap booking photographs of her family. Carol was previously employed at Kraft Foods and spent several years volunteering at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Missouri.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri. A celebration of her life and her union with Christ will be held Wednesday, July 14, at 1:00 pm also in the Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 pm at Barren Creek Cemetery in Bolivar, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideons International or Convoy of Hope.
